We have a black child, but also have other children. Are our other children welcome?
Yes, definitely. Your family is a mixed race family and it is important for all members to embrace the black culture. We’ve had several families where the white/Asian/Latino siblings have attended and look forward to the weekend as much as the black child in the family.
At what times during the weekend are our children supervised?
During the Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon activities the children are divided into groups by their age. They participate in age appropriate, culturally relevant activities supervised by qualified, background checked adults. All meals, Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday are large group activities and you are responsible for your children.
Our children are young, under 3, is it worthwhile to bring them?
Most psychologists believe that a child’s identity is formed by age 3, so we encourage parents to bring their children of all ages. It’s important for very young children to socialize with children and families that look like them. But the most important aspect for families with very young children is for the parents to get the training we provide. You will gain tools to help your children as they develop their identity and make you aware of issues they will encounter.
We are in the process of adopting, but don’t have placement yet. Is it still worth coming?
Yes, for the same reasons above. You will be more prepared to parent your child when he/she arrives.

Can we come just for the activities on Saturday?
We encourage families to spend the whole weekend at the event, so children and adults can socialize and get to know each other. Interaction with other families is an important part of the weekend experience. But yes, if you wish to come only on Saturday, or only Friday night and Saturday you can do so, however the cost for the conference is the same.
